There was jubilation galore at the Nigerian Correctional Service as the Correctional Service Arms Training School (CSATS) passed out 282 junior officers in Owerri.
The Passing Out Parade Ceremony of the Batch B 9th Basic Recruitment Course which was held on Friday at the Commandant Correctional Service Arms Training School, Owerri, was colourful as graduands appeared gallantly.
In his speech, Comptroller General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa, who was represented by Comptroller of Corrections, Ag. ACG Zone .E. Owerri, Barr. Kinane Suanu Dumnaawae, stated that the six months Basic Recruit Course which started on 4th January this year culminated in the graduation of 282 junior personnel of the NCOs, being a compulsory training meant for fresh recruits into the service was designed to mould personality, character and psyche in aligning with all the tenets of a paramilitary outfit, urging the personnel to exhibit excellence in accordance to training of the command while performing their responsibility.
Nababa while congratulating the new recruits for their endurance, perseverance and good conduct, warned them against “any act of indiscipline, disloyalty, disobedient to constituted authority and insubordination which will be decisively dealt with”, reminding them that “the service is strictly guided by the Nigerian Correctional Service Act 2019 and the standing order”.
Nababa charged the junior officers to “shun all acts of misconduct capable of jeopardizing the security of the custodial centres. You should be ready to do more as you begin the journey into your career as correctional officers. No sacrifice is too great in rendering service to your dear country”.
Speaking earlier, Commandant, Correctional Service Arms Training School, Owerri, Charles Sunday Esan, who expressed satisfaction on the successful Passing Out Parade of the junior personnel of the command, said it is hoped that the indefatigable and responsive Comptroller General of Correctional Service will meet their challenges of “construction of befitting parade ground and pavilion, construction and furnishing of modern administration block, barrack accommodation, procurement of electricity transformer, construction of modern students hostel and sinking and channeling of boreholes and extension of water supply to all parts of the school”.
The climax of the Passing Out Parade was the recognition and award of excellence to distinguished graduands: Anuforo Blessing (best in leadership, female), Ekwere Anadifon Effiong (best in academics and drilling), Akajiaku Chinyere Favor (most resourceful student) and Ani Chibuzo (best in leadership, male) who were filled with joy for the successful Passing Out Parade ceremony.
