As Catholic across the world marked Mother’s Day, women have been charged to live virtuously to lift their families, kindreds, communities and the society positively and prosperously.
This charge was given by the President of Maria Asumpta Cathedral Parish Catholic Women Organization, Ezinne Rita Nkeiruka Uwaforo, on the occasion of the 2023 Mother’s Day Celebration held on Saturday at the Obiri Odenigbo Pavilion, Owerri.
Uwaforo reminded the women of the need to emulate the virtue of the mother of Jesus Christ, Virgin Mary, to enable them exemplify motherhood and godliness, advising them to remain steadfast in the worship of God just as they pray fervently, being faithful to God, as well as loving humanity unconditionally.
“Mary, the mother of Jesus, is the greatest of all mothers. Motherhood has always been a sacred and revered position, but mother Mary gives us the clearest and most inspiring puncture of what an ideal mother should look like and every Christian mother would be wise to take her queues from the one who excelled at motherhood like no other”, Uwaforo emphasized.
While reflecting that good mothers have the duty to obey their husbands, train their children in the ways of God so that they will live righteously, the President noted that “Mothering Sunday is celebrated all over the world, but at different times of the year, having begun centuries ago. CWO Mother’s Day is a day set aside in the Catholic Liturgical event and to honor mother’s in the family, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds and the influence of mothers on the society”.
She stressed that “every Christian mother is expected to use the day’s occasion to reflect over her God’s given role in the family. CWO in the Maria Asumpta Cathedral Parish has come a long way with quality leadership skills worth emulating and each regime leaving behind great projects to be remembered for. Mothers are indeed rare gifts from God, with mother Mary as role model”.
Uwaforo enumerated that a lot has been achieved in her regime such as changing of all dilapidated closet systems in the restrooms in the Madonna House, fallen PVCs renovated, rewiring of Madonna House, purchasing of a big standard generator that can power the entire building, repainting of Madonna House, procurement of 4 Industrial OX fans to make the hall conducive and fully ventilated including the purchase of a big speaker.
Thus, the women thanked the Church, the Archbishop, His Grace Mmesoma Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, Archbishop Emeritus, Amarachi AJV Obinna, the Auxiliary Bishop, Most Rev. Moses Chikwe, Administrators, Chairman of the occasion, awardees, parishioners, committee members, their husbands, children and others for their firm support so far, soliciting financial assistance from wealthy individuals to enable them to complete their #30,000,000 Skill Acquisition Centre project.
