Momentum gained ground during the weekend as the People Democratic Party converged to show solidarity, commitment and dedication to party’s loyalty.
The venue, party’s Secretariat in Udoka Housing Estate, Awka, was flooded with committed, die hard party stakeholders, candidates from the 2023 elections, state leadership, local government executives from all 21 local government areas, and ward executives across the state on Saturday, June 8, 2024, where the rally was held successful rally, News Echo reports.
This gathering demonstrated the party’s strength and unity echoing a bright further for the party in the next coming election.
Speaking during the opening remark, The Anambra state PDP Chairman, Engr Chigozie Igwe said the morale of the party’s members were low because of the devastating effect of the bad outing in the last election. But the leadership of Chief Ali Odefa, the Elders and leaders of the party in Anambra have ensured that this current state executive Committee was put in place to reposition and return the party to winning ways.
” we centred the cardinal objectives of our operation on 3Rs (Re-awaken, Restore and Reposition) and have imbibed truth and justice as the watchword inorder to achieve a remodeled party that will be cohesive in purpose and efficient in delivery”.
He maintained that reconciliatary discussions have taken full dimension among party stakeholders, local govement and ward levels, while admitting that some members who left the party have now returned because they could see that Anambra PDP has re-invented itself and is poised to shoulder the emancipation of the state come 2025.
Engr Igwe, however, disclosed that the party will embark on elaborate your to local governments and proceed with fresh party registration and mobilisation for both old and new members.
Also speaking, former Minister of Women Affairs and former National Women leader of PDP, Mrs Josephine Anenih (IYOM), adviced the state excos to ensure that the party regains its past glory in Anambra State and also support candidates that will emerge for primary elections. “We will bring out candidates for the local government elections, support them to win so as to stand a chance in 2025 election,”.
Iyom called on the national leaders of PDP to consider employing women memebrs in the affairs of the party because of their accountability and which the party needs to progress. “Any woman you choose for any position be it at the local, state or national level, will be very accountable and thorough in doing that. It is very necessary we do that and you see we move our greater party to success”.
Earlier speaking, the National Chairman of the party, Umar Damagun, represented by the PDP’s National Auditor, Obi Okechukwu, while expressing joy over the large turnout of members at the rally, said PDP is fully prepared to unseat the APGA led-government in the state.
He added that the party had put electoral measures in place to win the election.
“With what I have observed in this rally today in Anambra state, I can assure you all that the bone shall rise again, and we will take over what belongs to us, come 2025, I will take your requests to the national level,” he assured.
In his brief speech, the immediate past Chairman of PDP in the state, Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu said, “Our ability to surmount our challenges, makes us who we are.There is no party greater than the PDP. As a PDP member, I am in a more vantage position to fight for your right. I promise to always contribute to the growth of our party. So, call on me anytime you need my support.”
Meanwhile some of the members, Mr Tochukwu Okeke from Ogbaru and mers Nkem Nwafor from Aguata said the essence of coming together was to reinforce to the PDP’s status as the major opposition party in Anambra State and the people of Anambra State are not deceived by APGA’s propaganda, and they will continue to support the PDP’s mission to provide quality governance and leadership.
Adding that the PDP Anambra State assures its members and the general public that the party’s structure is robust and united. “We urge our supporters to remain steadfast and ignore the false narratives perpetuated by APGA. Together, we will achieve victory in the 2025 elections and restore the glory of Anambra State”.
