The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has issued Certificates of Return to 30 members-elect of Anambra State House of Assembly. The certificate presentation ceremony took place at the INEC headquarters, on Friday, in Awka.
Addressing, INEC National Commissioner supervising Anambra state, Barrister Festus Okoye, said that the Section 72(1) of the Electoral Act 2022 (as amended) provides for House of Assembly members-elect to be issued certificates of return within two weeks from date of the election.
Barrister Okoye reminded them of the need to defend the growing democracy in Nigeria and not to allow anyone no matter how highly placed to disrupt the democracy in the country as according to him, even developed countries are still struggling to improve on their democracy just like Nigeria, urging the members-elect to always make laws that will improve the welfare of their constituents.
Earlier, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Anambra state, Dr Queen-Elizabeth Agwu while appreciating God that they did not lose a soul in the election, equally appreciated INEC chairman Professional Mahmood Yakubu for giving them a level playing ground and thanked Ndi Anambra for their support and encouragement and said that she is proud that she has fulfilled her promise of conducting free, fair and credible election in Anambra.
In their various reactions the members elect for Ihiala II Constituency, Mr Golden Iloh, his Idemili South constituency counterpart, Barrister Emeka Igwe, and that of Njikoka One constituency, Mr Chidi Ibemeka and member representing Anaocha II Constituency at the Anambra state House of Assembly, and also member-elect for the same constituency, Honourable Ejike Okechukwu , all candidates of APGA thanked their constituents for the confidence they reposed in them and pledged to do all within their powers to enact laws that will improve their welfare.
Also speaking, the member representing Anambra West constituency Honourable Obalim Udoba, also a member-elect for the same constituency and APGA candidate in the election, Nkechi Ogbuefi of Labour Party who is the member-elect for Anaocha one constituency and the only female law maker in the eighth Assembly noted that they are happy to be given an opportunity to serve the people, adding that they would fulfill their promise to them to the letter.
