…as 3 women, 10 children set to benefit from empowerment program
Married women of Ukpo community in Dunukofia Local Government area of Anambra have been tasked to uphold virtues of good conduct, truth and peace as the driving force to community development.
Chairman of event, Pastor Dr Obi Onwuakpa, made the call during the inaugural launch of the Umu Okpu Ukpo N’Akwu Na-Eziokwu Association held at the Oye Ukpo Square on Thursday, 21st Sept, 2023.
News Echo reports that the Umu Okpu N’ Akwu na-eziokwu is made up of true daughters of Ukpo who are duly married and have come together to be a beacon of truth and foster peace in Ukpo community as a whole.
The Chairman of the Occasion, Pastor Dr Obi Onwuakpa (Ichie Ojichukwu n’Ukpo), called on the women association to uphold virtues of good conduct that would ensure peace, progress and unity in the community.
Dr Onwuakpa however, advised the women to live as worthy embassadors of truth in their various homes, and the Ukpo community at large. He called on the women group to emulate positive lifestly as an exemplary model to upcoming young wives and ensure that responsible women are inducted into the association.
“In this your association, you have to ensure that the women you are going to induct are of good behavior and character. This will ensure that you achieve your mission and vision of forming this association”.
In her remark, President of the Association, Mrs Ifeoma Nweze maintained that truth and integrity are speedily becoming scare in our generation which has prompted the emergence of the noble organisation – Umuokpu Ukpo N’ Akwu na – Eziokwu to foster peace, unity and truth.
Mrs Nweze noted that the aim is to come together and contribute to the development of Ukpo community, focus on human capacity and improve the standard of living of the less privileged.
Pointing out plans for the community, Mrs Nweze expressed that the association intends to train some children from primary school level through to the Tertiary level, set up businesses for the youths for those who must have acquired basic skills, knowledge or education in any kind of business they want to embark on, give palliative in form of food distribution, easy and free access to health care and drugs especially among aged people and ensure that plan of God comes to bare on our land by constant prayers and supplication.
Adding that the long term goal is to raise financial independent families that will ensure sustainable development of Ukpo community.
Earlier speaking during the breaking of kolanut, His Royal Highness, Igwe Dr R.C Eze Okofia VI, Eze Ukpo Dunukofia, ably represented by Chief Mike Eze
(Bishop) prayed that good deeds and tidings be bestowed on the people of Ukpo community. He called on God to bless the association and give them the wisdom in piloting the affairs of the community.
Special highlights include selection of three women who will benefit from empowerment programme by December, ten children that will be sponsored through school, cutting of cake, presentation of gifts to widows and less privilege.
While dignitaries present were the Igwe In Council (Ndi Ichie), Chairman Dunukofia Local Government ably representing the state at the grassroots level, Umu Okpu Ukpo n’ Akwu na-Eziokwu and community members, security operatives, among others.
