Chief Executive Officer, Tropical Gate Foundation, Apostle Dr Nnamdi Mbaigbo has called on the federal government to grant duty waivers on electric vehicles and solar powered machines.
Dr Mbaigbo disclosed this recently in a letter addressed to the Governor Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr Yemi Cardoso on the subject: “Advocating for Duty Waivers on Electric Vehicles and Solar Power Systems”.
According to Dr Mbaigbo “I hope this message finds you well.i want to sincerely appreciate you for been instrumental in shaping economic policies and financial strategies. Your extensive experience in both the private sector and government positions makes you a key figure in Nigeria’s financial landscape. Here’s a concise letter you can use to address the importance of duty waivers for manufacturers, assemblers, and importers of electric vehicles and solar power systems:
“As a concerned stakeholder in Nigeria’s economic growth, I would like to emphasize the critical role that duty waivers play in promoting sustainable development. Specifically, I urge your support for granting duty waivers to manufacturers, assemblers, and importers of electric vehicles (EVs) and solar power systems”.
“Promoting Clean Energy Transition:
Electric vehicles and solar power systems are essential components of our transition to cleaner energy sources. By incentivizing their production and import, we contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and mitigating climate change.
Duty waivers would encourage investment in EV manufacturing and assembly within Nigeria, fostering job creation and technological advancement”.
“Boosting Local Industry:
Waiving import duties for EV components and solar equipment would stimulate local production. This, in turn, supports our domestic industries and enhances self-reliance”.
“Assemblers and manufacturers would benefit from reduced costs, allowing them to offer competitive prices to consumers”.
“Energy Security and Independence:
Solar power systems contribute significantly to energy diversification. By supporting their import and local assembly, we enhance our energy security and reduce dependence on fossil fuels”.
“Duty waivers would facilitate the adoption of solar energy solutions across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors”.
“Aligning with Global Trends:
Many countries worldwide have already embraced EVs and solar energy. By granting duty waivers, Nigeria can align itself with global sustainability goals and attract foreign investment”.
“In conclusion, I urge you to champion policies that prioritize clean energy adoption, local industry growth, and economic resilience. Your leadership can pave the way for a greener, more prosperous Nigeria”.
“Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to positive developments in our nation’s energy landscape.
Sincerely, Dr Nnamdi Mbaigbo”.
