Chairman, Elders Council, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Dr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, says Igbo elders are working for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s freedom from the DSS cell.
Speaking to journalists at his Orji Glass House residence on Thursday, Iwuanyanwu said the elders would not rest on their oars until the Supreme Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is released even unconditionally by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
According to Iwuanyanwu, “I, on behalf of the elders, assure the youth that nobody will victimize them for participating at the summit. Already, the Elders Council of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has been working tirelessly to ensure the unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. We will not rest on our oars until he gets his freedom. At the Peace Summit, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and some of his supporters including Mazi Simon Ekpa, will be expected to attend in person or send a representative. We need absolute peace in South East which is what we are known for”.
While calling for a peaceful and free poll in the South East, Iwuanyanwu urged the agitating groups to sheath their sword and embrace dialogue with relevant Igbo groups like the Ohanaeze Ndigbo and South East Governors Forum for peace to reign supreme in the region especially during the general elections. Iwuanyanwu regretted the killing of innocent people, arson, destruction of individual’s and public properties by some faceless groups in South East, stating that such ugly situation causes peril, pain, agony, suffering, retards social, economic advancement which he frowned adversely affect the entire people of Igbo.
“As father of youths in Igbo land, as the Ahaejiagamba Ndigbo, as the Grand Patron of virtually all youth organizations in Igbo land and as somebody who has valiantly served Igbo in time of war, I humbly appeal to all concerned to sheath their sword and accept a cease fire in order to allow elections to take place in South East devoid of any bloodshed”, he posited. He added that “after the elections, we will organize a Peace Summit which would give Igbo the opportunity to come in person or through a representative to air their grievances so that we can collectively find a solution and work together to create a new Igbo land built on a foundation of peace, love, prosperity and progress”.
