It was a day of double tragedy in Umuahia, Abia State capital on Saturday, when two young men died in mysterious circumstances.
The first ugly event happened at Ndagbo Umuoko, Amuzukwu Ibeku in Umuahia North LGA, when a popular musician, Chika Ofor, slumped on his music stage and died, hours later.
He was contracted to perform at the wake keep ceremony of late Pa Timothy Nwaobiala, who died at the age of 94 years.
News Echo gathered that the late Chika Ofor, slumped after he climbed the stage to perform. On slumping, he was alleged to have vomited substances that looked like “noodles”
A fan to the singer who spoke to newsmen, alleged that Ofor slumped down and was helped by some youths, who took him into his Volkswagen car marked Abia APR 502kx.
But on Saturday morning, he was discovered dead inside his Volkswagen car, throwing the burial plans into disarray.
The lifeless body of the singer was later evacuated from the scene, by his relatives from Bende in Bende LGA and taken to an undisclosed mortuary.
Tragically, Ofor before his unfortunate death, was said to be the only surviving child of his parents, as others died some apart.
The cause of Chika Ofor’s death was not established yet as his relatives and the family of the people that contracted him for the show, were yet to issue any statement.
However, some fans of the late musician are alleging that the late Chika Ofor, was allegedly served a plate of prepared noddle, to eat at the ceremony.
According to the fans who expressed themselves on social media, the singer may have been poisoned through food.
However, Abia State Police Command did not confirm if it received any report about the unfortunate event.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Abia State Police Command, ASP Maureen Chioma Chinaka said her office was not yet aware of the development.
But the main burial ceremony of Pa Timothy Nwaobiala, was later held by his family, under low key.
In a related incident, a young man in his late 30s, Chimezie Base has died in Umuahia, after collapsing on the ground while playing football.
Chimezie, lives at Ogoja lane in Umuahia, was confirmed dead by Doctors on duty, at Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia where he was rushed to.
It was not known if Chimezie was suffering from any major heath challenge, before his unfortunate death.
