Anambra State Association of Town Unions have inaugurated the community student cordinators, and community youth leaders who will serve as advocates to promoting Anambra values in the one hundred and seventy nine communities in the state.
The youths who were inaugurated during on Saturday, 23rd, 2023 at the ASATU office, Government House, Awka were also given the mandate to serve as watch dogs in checkmating the implementation of free education scheme announced by Prof Soludo within their various communities, News Echo reports.
The President of ASATU Youth Wing, Comrade Ken Okoli in his remark said that the youths in Anambra State is under the recognised arm of the ASATU which provides platforms for membership.
Comrade Okoli noted that the inauguration of associate members which includes the student unions was to integrate them into the activities of community under the Anambra State government.
“We are aware of the student coordinators existing in various Tertiary institutions but these youths are inaugurated as community cordinator, propagate Anambra values and executive these mandates, as well as advocacy to community development.
These student coordinators will also serve as watch dogs to checkmate the recent announcement by Soludo on the implementation of free education to primary schools, junior secondary and payment of only five thousand naira levy for senior secondary schools in the 179 communities in the state.
Addressing youth leaders from the 179 communities in Anambra State, wife of the Governor, Mrs Nonye Soludo said that the major aim for bringing her healthy living crusade to Anambra State is to change traditional harmful health habits and establish a new ideology in the way people see and look after their health.
According to the governor’s wife, so many people have lost regard for their health by making wrong choices in terms of what they eat and how they care for their body, a negative trend that has given rise to new cases preventable diseases and deaths.
Addressing the youths virtually, Mrs Soludo said that the crusade has been taken to the grassroots through ongoing youth engagements across the 21 local councils of the state, which are designed to get Anambra youths become lease advocates of the movement in their different communities.
Mrs Soludo however urged the youths to get well involved in the healthy living campaign, they could also help to strengthen and drive its visions, recognizing the role young people play in societal development in their various communities.
Earlier, the Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike said that by engaging with Anambra youths and by taking her crusade directly to the grassroots, the governor’s wife has taken another important step to make the crusade a common practice in the state.
For the newly elected Youth leaders, Chijioke Unaka Paul from Ajalli community expressed happiness for the elated position. He frowned at the increasing rate of drug abuse, criminality at the community level. He called on all stakeholders to put all hands on deck to the fight against these social vices.
Comr Unaka promised to be a good leader, and ensure that Ajalli youths are carried along in the affairs of the goverment.
Hon Paschal Aghamba, youth leader Ogbunike community, while thanking the leadership of the Soludo administration and ASATU as topnotch towards community development approach assured that the people of Ogbunike community will recieve be carried along in the dividends of democracy.
Other youth community leaders inaugrated as care taker Chairmen were Ogbunike, Nimo, Uli, among others while ASATU lady organizers and former youth leaders, were also present at the event.
