The people of Mbieri Nwaotuoke Autonomous Community in Mbaitolu Local Government Area of Imo state have celebrated its annual Iriji Oha na Eze Mbieri in grand style. The Yam festival which is an age long event was a moment of peace and unity where the 28 communities in Mbieri Clan converged for the New Yam festival.
Speaking at the event, an illustrious son of the community and the Former APC State Chairman, Chief Marcilnus Nlemigbo, said it’s an opportunity to thank God for a successful farming year.
The APC chieftain who also bagged an award at the festival urged the people of Mbieri to work together in unity as it brings the success of a people. Also speaking the President General of Mbieri Nwaotuoke and the PG of Ohaneze Mbieri Chief Fidelix Akuchie who has served the community for four years said the Iriji is an avenue of recounting the success recorded by the clan in the past and make plans for the subsequent years.
He disclosed that the turnout of people at the event is a symbol of unity and togetherness. He however called on the people of Mbieri to embrace peace for the progress and development of the community. The PG who was also given an award for his numerous contributions to the community expressed joy over the recognition given to him and promised to do more.
Also speaking Lady Margret Oparaugo, the president general of Mbieri women also expressed joy over the peaceful conduct of the festival and called on the women to support the development of the area. Speaking to Newsmen, Chief Sir Onyewuchi Asinobi( Mayor) a philanthropist and one of the Apex leaders in the community expressed joy over a peaceful Celebration and thanked the people for an Award given him.
The chairman of the planning community also expressed delight over the success of the festival and sued for peace amongst the people of Mbieri ancient kingdom and called for all hands to be on deck to develop Mbieri. The event featured lots of cultural activities to the delight of sons and daughters of the community.
