Oko Community of Anambra State has scheduled to dedicate its remodeled Oko Civic Centre to the memory of former Nigeria’s late Vice President (VP), Dr. Alex Ekwueme, with a colorful ceremony scheduled to hold at the center on January 5, 2024.
Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, an ally of the former Vice President, would be the Special Guest at the occasion to perform the task of declaring the center open. Other dignitaries from across the country, including political associates and family friends of the former VP are expected to witness the epoch-making event.
A select group of Oko indigenes, known as Ide Memorial Group, led by former Special Assistant to former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Special Duties, Handel Okoli, had provided the financial resources to transform the civic center into a multi-million, multipurpose center to be named ‘Alex Ekwueme Civic Centre.’ Okoli said the event would be a commemoration of the life and times of the former VP and a major step by the Oko Community to immortalize a man of sterling qualities, who meant everything superlative in the lives and development of the community, as well as the entire country.
