A non governmental organization charged with the responsibility of caring for the elderly under the aegis of First/Best Domiciliary Home Care World ( Care Service of Aged Persons) have been inaugurated in Awka, Anambra State capital.
News Echo reports that the old people’s Home Domiciliary services was established to carter for those aged persons whose sons and daughters may not have the opportunity to stay around, they are unavoidable in the diaspora, who may also lack trusted hands or trained persons to extend such services to them or suffer lack and care.
The FirstBest Home which was officially inaugrated on Saturday, 9th Sept, 2023 at Finotel Hotel Awka, had in attendance government health officials, care givers, media personnel, traditional Igbo monarchs and elders, among others.
In his opening remark, Chairman of the Occassion, Arc Mike Ikemefuna Nwafor said those who are aging must enjoy their lifes. Our unique design is in such a way that they enjoy their natural habitants not faring them in some strange lonely rooms. We want them return to their natural environment, see those they left behind, see the trees they grew up with, the hills, valleys and we believe that help heal the loneliness, and also
Speaking to Newmen, Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike reiterated Anambra State commitment for the elderly annd challenges they face.
“Governor Soludo is planning a robust package for the elderly and there is also a data bank for them. We are equally planning Home Care services, social insurance for those in need of the services. loneliness pose major challenge for the elderly and we are making everyrhing possible to ensure they feel loved and homely.
Guest speaker, the Bishop of Living Epistle Ministry Int’l, Bishop Alex Okedo pointing out at the biblical quotations where Christ urged his followers to take care of their parents, said there is much blessing when you care for your aged ones.
Director, Care Service Nigeria, Apst. E.I.B Mbah, expressed that at old stage of life, parents who fortunately have caring sons and daughters will still enjoy cares/attention, while those whose son/daughters do not care but suffer their woes of old age and in most cases, die of agony.
This is the reason in life when many aged people who lacks care and attention rather choose death as their next option; and this they never expected while living as youths and mere adults.
Earlier in his remark, Chairman, Nigerian Union of Journalists, Anambra Chapter, Comr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu (phd) maintained that the media is an integral aspect of information gathering and dissemination. Describing the media as the fourth estate of the realm, the conscious and moral paremeter of the public, while urging the public to honour the media as that will always bring out the best in media professionals.
Advicing the youths, the traditional ruler of Awka, Obi Gibson Nwosu, Eze Uzu of Awka represented by Chief Mike Onwuasor, maintained that people should think and consider that parents, have toiled to raise them for good, from childhood, deserve a great reward from them, in spite of how ugly they look now. When you take care of them in their old age, they will enjoy and be satisfied that they invested in you. And they will continue to pronounce their last blessings upon you before they pass away from the earth.
Highlight of the occassion was the cutting of cake while dignitaries present were, His Royal Majesty Igwe Dr Emeka Ilouno, JP, Eze Dunu, Igwe Ifitedunu, traditional ruler of Nawfia, Igwe Daniel Obelle, represented by Mr. Isaac Aghamba, and the traditional ruler of Ifitedunu, Igwe Dr. Emeka Ilouno, among others.
